|Pope’s Mourners Reveal Spiritual Hunger
22 April 2005
CBN.com - The massive crowds who came to see Pope John Paul II surprised many in what has become known as 'secular' Europe.
Church attendance across the European continent, in recent decades, has declined dramatically across the European continent in recent decades, and the society has been described as a 'post-Christian culture.'
Well-known Evangelist Benny Hinn was at the Pope's funeral. He says the turnout for it shows that people are still hungry for God.
Hinn told us, “It’s a very, very moving moment in history because people all over the world are hungry for the Lord.”
Hinn went on, “You see the millions that are coming here, now, they’re probably going to see up to 5 million people here. CNN asked me this morning, ‘Why?’ One reason: people are looking for God.”
He says the spiritual hunger on display this week in Rome, and what he sees around the world, provides a tremendous opportunity for the church.
Hinn said, “And people are just hungry, and they are looking. And I think it’s our job to show them the way. To say, ‘Jesus is the answer.’ What a day we’re living in, it’s amazing!”
He added, “My prayer is that God Almighty will bring a fresh move of God to the church.”
I asked, “How should people be praying for the papal election?”
Hinn responded, “Pray that God’s Holy Spirit will guide the Cardinals in choosing a man who will bring about a tremendous outpouring of the Holy Spirit on earth.”
“Look,” Hinn said, “Pope John Paul Two pointed millions to Jesus Christ. He said open your heart to Christ. He said burst your heart open to Christ.”
Hinn added, “He told us, and the world, to look to Jesus.”
Ending, Hinn said, “My prayer now is that the Holy Spirit would move mightily and do exactly that. That Jesus would be revealed to the heart of men. This is the hour for the church to rise up and say ‘Jesus is the Way, the Truth and the Life!’”
