Visions of Red ~ How one band is taking on the world, one fan at a time

The Dove-award winning, GRAMMY-nominated band Red has spent the year smashing the music charts, smashing the stereotype of Christian rock and even smashing a few jaws along the way.

With their debut album End of Silence breaking the Top Ten on the mainstream Active Rock Radio and Billboard Heatseekers Album Charts, Red is showing no signs of slowing down. Additionally, End of Silence recently broke the iTunes Top 100 Album Chart. Their songs “Breathe into Me,” “Already Over,” and “Break Me Down” have all captured the number one spot on the R&R Christian Rock Radio Chart.

This kind of acclaim is something that the guys of Red are not taking for granted. With an ever-growing list of achievements that few artists ever attain, Red guitarist Anthony Armstrong shares, “I seriously can’t believe what is happening with our music. The dreams we all have continue to come true. We’re so glad to have these opportunities to connect with our fans…that is ultimately what makes any of this possible.”

But don’t make the mistake of thinking that record sales and charts are all they care about. Red’s passion for their fans goes far beyond their energetic live show. The true passion of Red starts first with their music. Red refuses to mince their words or even sugar coat their lyrics. Having personally dealt with tragedy, regrets, addiction, and a litany of past mistakes, Red looks real issues right between the eyes on End of Silence, and refuses to blink. Guitarist Jasen Rauch hopes his past difficulties can have a positive impact on listeners. He wants to remind everyone that, “No matter where you’ve been, the endgame of salvation is still the same.”

“People are hitting on subjects that are deeper and darker,” Armstrong says. “I think it’s just a sign of Christian music evolving. But at the end of the day, no matter what the message is wrapped in, the music is still about redemption - how people got out of their struggles and into their relationship with God.”

Red is taking their message of redemption and wrapping it up in a high energy, guitar gnashing live performance that will leave their audience just as breathless as they are. Unafraid of playing with mainstream artists, they bring, or scream, their message of hope without any fear of condemnation. While touring with some of rock music’s biggest acts, (Sevendust, Three Days Grace, Breaking Benjamin, Puddle of Mudd), they unashamedly sing their hearts out. Guitarist Anthony Armstrong explains, “We’re intent on connecting with the crowd. We’re there for them - they’re not there for us.”

Their passion for their audience spurs on their live performance, which has gotten a little out of control at times. “We’re passionate about our live show, but sometimes we get a little too excited,” says bassist Randy Armstrong. He’s just stating the facts. Or more to the point, the injury report. Head contusions. Emergency rooms. Stitches. And that was just one tour. “Anthony swung his guitar around his body and smashed it into Michael's head causing the guitar to break and Michael to get seven stitches.”

Red will be spending the rest of summer 2007 playing multiple Christian festivals before going back on tour with Three Days Grace and Breaking Benjamin in October and early November of this year. Don’t worry. If you can’t make it to one of their amazing live shows, One Cubed is bringing a taste of Red to you.
