Here is a taste of what the media have to say about the new album:
"The same Kutless we know and love, but with subtle changes. The band, like the individual members, has grown over the years and growth means change. Personally, I think that this is one of the best albums Kutless has released. Look out world, Kutless is back and they are most definitely alive!" -4.5 out of 5 stars, About.com
" 'To Know That You're Alive' is without a doubt one of Kutless' strongest releases, and could easily render itself candidate for Album of the Year. One of the album's strong points is that it remains versatile to both heavier and more melodic tracks, and with that said, the future seems nothing but positive, and "To Know You're Alive" will expectedly be well received by both fans and critics alike." -4 out of 5 starts, ChristianManifesto.com
"Kutless is one of those groups who have shown they have what it takes to stick around and gather a huge following. Their latest project proves that they still have a lot to offer in way of that energy and professionalism. To Know That You're Alive is a nice mix of hard rock/metal and pop rock that is sure to add even more weight to that legacy." -Soul-Audio.com
"Dynamic Rockers mature, push bold message with aggressive new disc. And for this industry, it is the band's unashamed lyrical focus and spiritual awareness that endears them to hundreds of thousands of young music lovers, admonishing them with a message that is both relevant and timeless." -CMCentral.com
The Portland, Oregon-based Kutless has emerged as one of Christian and rock music's hottest acts. Kutless has played before nearly two million fans in the past four years, has had eight radio hits from the band's first three CDs, Kutless, Sea of Faces and Strong Tower, and been nominated for multiple Dove Awards, earning its first last year for the band's participation on the Special Event Album of the Year, the soundtrack to "Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe." Kutless' music also has been featured in television and film. On the NBC hit TV show "Scrubs," in an episode this season titled "My Bright Idea," the Kutless song "All of the Words" played for almost two minutes during a pivotal scene of the popular comedy.
Launched by original members Jon Micah Sumrall (lead vocals) and guitarist James Mead, the band formed first as a modern rock/worship band at Warner Pacific College in Portland in 2000, influenced by Christian rock predecessors such as the Supertones as well as mainstream modern rockers like Staind, Foo Fighters, and Incubus. Kutless signed to Tooth & Nail/BEC in late 2001 and released its self-titled debut the following year, which went on to become the fastest-selling debut in the label's history. Hearts of the Innocent marked the recording debut of the band's new members, drummer Jeffrey Gilbert and bass player Dave Luetkenhoelter, both formerly of alt-rock band Seven Places. In 2007, Nick De Partee joined the band as the new guitarist after being with the band for over a year as their guitar tech. To Know That You're Alive is the band's fifth full-length album following the hit records that have sold more than 1.5 million copies. The band partnered for the first time with producer Pete Kipley (The Afters, MercyMe, Phil Wickham) for this project. In addition, the album features strings recorded in London at Abbey Road Studios for several songs including the title track. Kutless also recently finished their 30+ acoustic tour this spring. After a summer of key music festivals, Kutless will headline the first ever Creation Tour, which will be a rock replica on wheels of the 30-year-old summer festival.
