|CELEBRITY CAMPAIGNER JOINS MAYFIELD FLAVOR DECISION ‘06
07 July 2006
Josh Bates isn't afraid to stand up for what he believes in - and for Mayfield Flavor Decision '06 that's Peanut Butter Cookie Dough! This up-and-coming contemporary Christian artist has announced his support for the unique peanut butter platform of cookie dough flavored ice cream, creamy peanut butter swirl and cookie dough pieces.
"I used to love to eat cookie dough right out of the tube when I was younger, but I never really gravitated toward the cookie dough ice creams," Bates admitted. "But I said, ‘Wow! This is something different!' It was so different from all the other ice creams, and I thought this was a really good combination."
The decision came after Bates and members of his band conducted a private "eat and greet" with all four candidates. Despite being an avowed chocolate fan, Triple Brownie and Extreme Moose Tracks were a distant second and third for Bates, with Blueberry Cream Pie pulling up the rear. Bates also admits that peanut butter, though typically prevalent in most kids' menus, was not a frequent part of his diet in his youth, so his instant attraction to Peanut Butter Cookie Dough was a surprise.
"I think it's a young flavor," Bates said. "I think it will appeal to a younger group of people." This statement makes perfect sense for the twenty-something musician, who is currently on tour in support of his debut CD release, Perfect Day. Bates said the title track of the CD is one which he can most relate to his choice of ice cream candidates. "Mayfield Peanut Butter Cookie Dough is the perfect ice cream for a ‘perfect day,'" Bates quipped.
Other candidates' headquarters have so far scoffed at the notion of celebrity endorsements playing a part in this fight for the freezer. A Blueberry Cream Pie representative, who asked to remain anonymous, said she thinks it's questionable for Bates to come out in support of Peanut Butter Cookie Dough considering the flavor's reputation as being "on the edge" and a "dark horse candidate." But Bates, true to his honest nature, takes the criticism in stride. "I think the ‘edginess' of Peanut Butter Cookie Dough goes right along with my personality," Bates replied. "Plus, I like to root for the underdog."
Bates also hopes his participation in the political process will inspire kids to do their part through the Mayfield Flavor Decision '06 Kid Campaigner Contest, where they can campaign on behalf of their own favorite flavor for a chance to win great prizes. There is no doubt about it, Mayfield Flavor Decision '06 is in full swing, and it is widely being reported that the other three candidates are now scrambling to line up their own celebrity campaigners. In the meantime, stages throughout the Southeast will play host this summer to the musical stylings of Josh Bates as he proudly shares the spotlight with the ice cream-ier stylings of Mayfield's Peanut Butter Cookie Dough.
Flavor Decision '06 is a chance for the public to democratically choose a favorite from among Mayfield's four new feature flavors - Blueberry Cream Pie, Extreme Moose Tracks, Peanut Butter Cookie Dough and Triple Brownie. The Polls will be open May 15 through August 27. Sampling and voting opportunities are available at several retail outlets and special events throughout the region.
