|OLIVIA THE BAND RECIEVES RAVE REVIEWS ON ITS DEBUT ALBUM
06 April 2005
Olivia The Band, North Shore surfers turned rockers, released its self-titled debut Jan 18 on Essential Records. Meanwhile, the band’s first single, “Shut It Out,” released to CHR and ROCK radio charts on Nov 5, quickly climbed to the top of the ROCK chart taking its position at No. 6. Joining the Rock 4 Food Tour on select dates with Day of Fire, the band is making an impact nation wide.
Feedback from media has been tremendous with responses printed across the outlets. Christian Music Planet notes, “The Hawaiian foursome’s debut album features all the elements that make surf punk popular: infectious pop tunes arranged to rock guitars, lashing, yet smooth vocals and a rollicking beach vibe.” While HM Magazine says, “The sound of “The Band” is crisp, clean and mostly fast. The songs are passionate…there’s no questioning this group’s sincerity.”
“Olivia The Band feature plenty of high-energy music, crashing guitars and driving drum beats on their self-titled debut. In fact, these guys rock a little harder than Relient K,” said the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. “The twin guitars of Gabe Watts and Justin Abilla rip, crunch and riff through the album’s 12 tracks with focused furry,” said CCM Magazine. “(Olivia The Band) rock hard on their major label debut, led by drummer Christian Perreira’s blistering punk attack,” said the Dallas Morning News.
The college papers are even talking about the album whose audience is reflective of their own. The Daily Tar Heel of the Univ. of NC said, “Olivia The Band has delivered a solid debut album with enough variety and enthusiasm to make one genuinely excited to see how this band will mature and develop.” The Daily O’Collegian of Okla. State Univ. added, “Guitar riffs and drum solos over lyrics rhyming with butterflies can get any hardnosed rocker out of his seat and moshing in his own living room.”
Olivia The Band joins Day of Fire and Krystal Meyers on select Rock 4 Food Tour dates this spring. However, when not on stage they can most likely be found surfing a wave somewhere between San Diego and Oahu.
