|MICHAEL W. SMITH TAKES TO ROAD, ENCOURAGE FANS TO “STAND”
12 March 2007
Veteran recording artist/performer/worship leader Michael W. Smith continues his record-setting career, performing powerful new music from his 19th studio project Stand for audiences across the United States with a 20-city spring tour.
The latest single from Stand, “Be Lifted High,” went to Christian radio for adds Feb. 2 and has received tremendous support from radio stations across the country.
Stand, Smith’s 19th career album (11-7-06), debuted at No.1 on both the Nielsen Christian and Combined SoundScan sales charts, and spurred on a highly successful 24-city fall tour and 18-city Christmas tour, the latter of which sponsored by TiVo KidZone. This spring tour will also feature Rocketown Records recording artist Michael Olsen opening the show as special guest.
On touring in 2006, Smith offers, “Last fall, I had such a great time. It was me at a piano – this intimate setting really allowed me to connect with audiences. On the Christmas tour, I took Michael Olson out as an opener. He’s an incredible artist and also a worship leader at my church. I think he’ll bring a lot to the Spring tour.”
In addition, Smith, in his role as vice-chair on the President’s Council for Service and Civic Participation honored volunteers at each Fall and Christmas tour stop with Presidential Volunteer Service Award, underscoring his appreciation for individuals and groups choosing to take a stand for issues in their communities; something he’ll continue to do over the Spring dates.
The spring tour is merely the tip of the iceberg, so to speak, for Smith’s 2007 slate of appearances, as Michael headlines his own Alaskan cruise July 14-21 via Inspiration Cruises and Holland America Lines. Visit www.michaelwsmith.com for more information.
