|CASTING CROWNS TAKES TOP GROUP HONORS
27 April 2007
With the announcement of the 38th Annual Gospel Music Association Dove Awards last evening, multi-platinum artist Casting Crowns was once again named Group of the Year for the third consecutive year.
Going into the night as one of the top nominees, Casting Crowns also took home the Dove for Pop/Contemporary Recorded Song for “Praise You in This Storm,” from its GRAMMY-winning Lifesong project. This track, one of the biggest songs in Christian radio this past year, won ASCAP’s prestigious Song of the Year honor earlier in the week.
BMI also honored the group this week naming “Voice of Truth” as its Song of the Year winner with writer/lead vocalist Mark Hall being named BMI Songwriter of the Year for the second time since 2004. The band picked up multiple BMI Performance Awards for “Lifesong,” “Voice of Truth” and “Praise You in This Storm” naming them as three of the top-performing songs in Christian radio.
The highly-anticipated third album release from Casting Crowns is set for Aug. 28 (Beach Street/Reunion Records), followed by its headlining of a major 80-city tour which launches this fall with special guest Leeland, and introducing John Waller. This live show is set to be one of the top-billed tours of the year, kicking off in San Antonio, Texas, and hitting most of the U.S., including key markets such as Atlanta, Birmingham, Houston, Portland, Seattle, Phoenix, Los Angeles and Sacramento.
Over its three-year career, Casting Crowns has been honored with a GRAMMY Award, two American Music Award nods and now 12 Gospel Music Dove Awards. Casting Crowns has been the most played artist on all Christian radio formats combined, with six consecutive No.1 AC radio hits, and the group has sold more than 2.5 million albums to date. Lead singer and songwriter Mark Hall has been a student pastor for 16 years and currently serves on staff at Eagle’s Landing First Baptist Church in Atlanta. Casting Crowns claims the distinction of being the fastest CCM artist in its career to have its first two albums certified Platinum, and only the second in RIAA history ever to achieve it (the other being Jars of Clay). The band recently made a trip to North Korea, as the only U.S. band invited to play at the April Art Friendship Festival, Apr. 11-13.
