|German Artist Sarah Brendel Signs With Inpop Records
17 May 2005
In keeping with its commitment to seek out and promote talent from around the globe, Inpop Records has signed German artist Sarah Brendel to its roster. Brendel joins a stable of international artists including newsboys, Superchick, Tree63, Shane & Shane, Mat Kearney, and Paul Colman among others. Brendel’s self-titled, stateside debut releases July 19th. Brendel’s first single, the passionate, infectious “Fire,” recently went for adds at CHR and Rock radio and has been the most added single two weeks in a row.
Brendel has already established herself as one of Germany's most talented, unique voices, and she has earned the critical acclaim and mainstream radio success abroad to prove it. Her July 19th release showcases her alternative-rock style. Electric guitars, atmospheric soundscapes and honest lyrics decorate this disc that is sure to establish Brendel as one of the premier artists in the music industry.
Says Brendel, “I was drawn to Inpop because they really believed in my music and message. I enjoy the family atmosphere in the office and I’m confident they will work hard to make this record a success. Since I was a teenager, I’ve been writing my songs in English, and now I know it’s because God’s plan for my life was to come to America. I look forward to experiencing all that He has for me.”
Since 2002, Brendel has landed a consistent string of singles, scored the song “Take My Heart” for the cinematic thriller The Poet and was the celebrated vocalist behind a national TV spot campaign on RTL (the biggest TV station in the German media scene). Along the way she’s also earned the top 10 mainstay song “Sign Of The Times” on her homeland’s coveted All Star Project, topped the charts for over 20 weeks with the smash “Du Bist Nicht Allein” and entertained 100,000 people at the acclaimed venue Stuttgart Stadium.
As a teen, Brendel became a Christian and drew inspiration from the songs of music legend Larry Norman. Following Norman’s lead, she picked up an acoustic guitar and taught herself how to play. Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash, and Sparklehorse additionally wielded influence on Brendel, and after honing her own musical chops in front of her family and church, Brendel branched out to local audiences. From there, success ensued.
“The first time I heard Sarah’s music, I was drawn to her voice and her sound,” says Inpop General Manager Rob Poznanski. “Not only is her music engaging, her personality is genuine and endearing as well. We’re honored that Sarah chose us, and we’re going to work hard to make her a success in this marketplace,” says Poznanski.
Inpop co-founder and newsboy’s frontman Peter Furler concurs: “Sarah is one of those rare artists. She plays, sings, and writes her own music. Germany has been an incredibly receptive starting ground for her, and I believe the rest of the world is ready for this incredible talent,” says Furler.
Plans are in the works for a fall tour, and Brendel will be hitting all major festivals this summer. Additionally, Brendel will be a part of the World Youth Day event in Germany in August. Nearly three million people are expected at that event.
