Homosexuality in the Modern World

All over the world there is increasing pressure for society to recognize gay rights and same-sex marriages, both of which declare that homosexuality as a normal and accepted alternative way of life.

Iíve done a lot of research on homosexuality because it has become such a huge issue around the world. Through this research I have discovered that the majority of homosexuals have had some homosexual experience, but do not practice homosexual behavior on a regular basis. For example, a relationally needy person will sometimes use a homosexual affair to meet his or her needs for acceptance and love. The person is attracted to the same sex because his or her needs are not being met, not because of physical attraction. But there will always be a feeling that something is not right, because homosexuality is not natural. This is a problem that parts of our world are getting caught up in.

The Christian position is that homosexuality is sinful. We as Christians believe that it is a choice. It is a disorder from which the person who is suffering from it can be healed, either miraculously or through the longer term processes of prayer, spiritual growth and therapy. The Bible clearly condemns both the desire for someone of the same sex and also having a physical relationship with someone of the opposite sex outside of marriage. The sexual drive itself is wholesome and good. It is Godís way of providing both pleasure and reproduction. When directed toward a person of the same sex, it abandons itís God given purpose and becomes an act of unnatural passion. We as Christians choose to follow what the Word of God says about the issue, and it is very clearly stated in several different passages throughout the Bible.

1 Corinthians 6:9- Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the Kingdom of God.

Leviticus 18:22- Do not lie with a man as one lies with a woman; that is detestable.

During the time the Old Testament was written, the punishment for homosexual behavior for both participants was death. Death would be one punishment, but the wrath of God after death will be much greater. Even though the executions donít take place anymore, and no matter how we try to justify homosexuality as normal behavior, the wrath of God remains.

Romans 1:26-27- God gave them up to vile passions. For even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature. Like-wise also the men, leaving the natural use of the women, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due.

There is no way of denying how God views homosexuality. The decision is yours. The choice is life or death. You can either choose to accept the distorted view of the world and let yourself get mixed up in homosexual behavior to fill some void that is in your heart, or you can fill that void with God. You can believe that He has something greater- a normal life with the partner that He has chosen. If you choose this life, God will bless your decision in more ways than you can imagine. If you choose death, know that it is eternal death. There is always hope for salvation, but God will not turn His back and accept this sort of lifestyle.

I challenge you today, that if you are practicing homosexual behavior right now, and are struggling to let it go- to realize that there is a cure, and itís Godís amazing Grace. Nothing is beyond Him. No sin is unforgivable, but it will have to be a life-changing, conscience decision on your part to give this to God. Godís will is for us all to have a bright future with HimÖwhat life will you choose?
