Nichole Nordeman Covers Dylan Classic On Brave
20 June 2005

Award-winning singer/songwriter Nichole Nordeman, best known for her own compositions, branches out with a cover of the Bob Dylan classic, “Gotta Serve Somebody,” on her new #1 album, BRAVE. Strangely enough, the inspiration to do so came after being wearing a hairnet at church.

In a CMCentral.com cover story, Nichole explains that her “out of the box” pastor in Dallas handed out hairnets to the congregation after being inspired by the workers at a local cafeteria:

“These women stand behind the counter all day long and literally ask the same question over and over again. ‘How can I serve you?’ (My pastor) thought that was such a portrait of what our lives should be as Christians. The act of service was really what Jesus was all about.”

“So, he handed out these hairnets to make a point. Then at the very end of the service, he read through the entire (Dylan) lyric . . . I just thought it was such a great thing to say. It was a really courageous song to write. My understanding is that he wrote it soon after he became a Christian.”
