Do you ever have those days where you just can’t seem to get motivated- where you would rather be doing anything than the task that is right in front of you? We will always have times where we want to be lazy, and do nothing all day, but what would we be getting accomplished for the kingdom of God?
There are those people that always try to take the short-cuts in life. They never want to do anything whole-heartedly. They think, “the easier the better!” That is the wrong mentality to have. We should have a servant’s mentality; a “how can I make a difference,” mentality.
As Christians, we have to realize that everything we do is a representation of Christ, so we should do everything in excellence! That doesn’t mean just in your profession. The little things matter too, like having a clean room, being involved in church, or making an effort when meeting new people.
Colossians 3:17- And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to the Father through Him.
It is easy to become comfortable in your position and your lifestyle, but becoming comfortable means becoming less passionate and less eager. We have to realize that our lives do not belong to us, they belong to God, the one who gave them to us.
John 9:4- As long as it is day, we must do the work of him who sent me.
We have to be set apart in all that we do. Our purpose as Christians is to be a light to non-Christians, and the best way to do that is through our actions and using our life as a representation of Christ. People can and will notice a difference in you, and respect the passion and devotion that embraces you. Who can respect someone that complains about the work that needs to be done without taking a step to get it done? Know that if you work to the best of your ability, God also notices, and you will be rewarded.
2 Chronicles 15:7- But as for you, be strong and do not give up, for your work will be rewarded.
If you choose to be complacent in all that you do, that lifestyle will spread to all aspects of your life. If you are lazy at work, you will become lazy within your marriage and raising your kids. Laziness can take control, and make you apathetic about life itself. What is the point of living if you have nothing to live for?
Proverbs 12:24- Diligent hands will rule, but laziness rules in slavery.
I challenge you today, that if you live a careless life, just doing enough to get by, to re-evaluate your lifestyle, and make some changes. Instead of thinking, how much longer do I have to sit through this, or, what is the easiest way to get this done; think how can I add to the team, how can I demonstrate the ability and talents that God has given me? You just may get that raise you have been waiting for, or you may gain the respect that has been lacking from your peers. If nothing else, God is looking down, smiling at you because He is proud!
