Have you ever gotten to the point in your life where you look at your surroundings and wonder what happened to the passion and the drive for your relationship with Jesus? You had the hunger and you had the desire, but somewhere along the road of life it died out. Maybe you got too busy with work or school, relationships started to replace your quiet times, or laziness and complacency came through the back door and took control of your actions. Whatever the case, why do so many times we settle for a casual, routine driven relationship with Jesus?
We as Christians need to understand the reality and power that we have with our relationship with God. We have the ability each day to be consumed with a fire and drive that is so awesome; we canít just sit idle, but will strive to keep moving forward. Itís Godís plan that we have this passion!
John 15:5-8 - I am the vine, you are the branches; he who abides in Me and I in him, he bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing. If anyone does not abide in Me, he is thrown away as a branch and dries up; and they gather them, and cast them into the fire and they are burned. If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. My Father is glorified by this, that you bear much fruit, and so prove to be My disciples.
The first thing youíve got to realize is that Jesus is your source. In the verse above He says ďwithout Me you can do nothingĒ. Jesus also says ďhe who abides in Me and I in him, he bears much fruit.Ē If you grasp this and begin to press into God, draw near to Him, you will recognize that your hope, your future, your job, your strength all come from Him, and you will begin to experience a hunger in your life for the things of God, to see His purpose and His will carried out.
The key is that youíve got to abide in Him. You canít occasionally tap into God for something you need whenever circumstances or challenges arise. You need to be continually walking in it every day. When you make this your purpose to abide in Jesus, when you live like this, God will keep you hungry and will keep you fresh. Your passion will continue to burn more and more.
Joshua 1:8 (the message) - And don't for a minute let this Book of The Revelation be out of mind. Ponder and meditate on it day and night, making sure you practice everything written in it. Then you'll get where you're going; then you'll succeed.
Your hunger is dependent on what you feed it. This is why it is so important to get into the Bible, to build yourself up in the Word, and to know and understand it. When you make the Word your foundation and carry it around on the inside of you, you will start to see it take control of your actions, your words, and your thought life. Your hunger will continue to increase because Godís Word is your foundation, and you will never lack vision because you have attached yourself to His purpose.
Psalm 1:1-3 - How blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked, nor stand in the path of sinners, nor sit in the seat of scoffers! But his delight is in the law of the LORD, and in His law he meditates day and night. He will be like a tree firmly planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in its season and its leaf does not wither; and in whatever he does, he prospers.
When you passionately seek after God, your life will stand out. Some of the old crowds you used to hang out with, even some of your friends might start to look at you strange or differently. Itís not your fault; they just donít know the kind of change and hunger that is occurring daily in your life.
Look at the leaders in the Bible, Moses, Abraham, Paul, Jesus; they all stood out not because of they were seeking what was popular with the crowd or human approval, but it was because they attached themselves to a purpose higher than their own. When you live a life that pleases God it will take you out of the crowd and set you apart. You will put yourself in the position to bear fruit, the position where God will pour out His blessings into your life.
Colossians 1:9-10 - For this reason also, since the day we heard of it, we have not ceased to pray for you and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, so that you will walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, to please Him in all respects, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God.
I challenge you today to step out and allow yourself to abide in Jesus with unwavering passion and hunger. Choose to relentlessly tap into your relationship with God, to walk in it every day, and to continually build your foundation and knowledge in His Word. Learn to live to please God, by doing so He will provide you the strength, the favor, the job, the friends, the finances. By putting yourself into position to live this dynamic life, God will give you the ability to be an influence, and His promises of bearing fruit and blessings will pour out into you life.
