Billy

Hi, my name is Billy, and this is My World.

Growing up in the Congo was awesome! I became a Christian when I was 12. I didn’t do well in school because I would much rather be watching movies, or playing outside, which cause tension between me and my parents.

Many times I felt like my family would be better off without me.

In 1998, my feelings became reality. My family was celebrating my dad's birthday, when men from the US Embassy knocked on our door. Because I was an American by birth, they told me I should leave the country, and return to the United States. I was only 17, but my parents decided that I should go. I packed my things, and the next day, my dad took me to the American Consulate. I felt really sad as I watched him drive away.

Reality set it. I realized that I was going to a country that I knew nothing about. I felt like I had been abandoned. I kept thinking, “What if I end up living on the streets?”

When I arrived in the USA, I called the Congolese family in America that my parents knew, and the phone just rang and rang. I prayed and finally someone answered the phone, and the came and got me. The school year started, and I had to adapt to another culture and language, which was really hard.

I missed my family, I missed my parents, I missed my friends…

My journal was filled with phrases like, “Why this? Why that?” Why do these things happen to me?”

But after all these things, after all these things in my journal, I recalled what God had done for me previously. He got me from the Congo to Cameroon, Cameroon to Paris, and Paris to the USA. He gave me a family when I had to leave mine behind.

One day I met my future wife. Her name is Karen, and she is a blessing. A couple of year ago my Dad came to visit me. He told me that he realized that I head to leave home so that my faith could grow…and he was right! It took all of this for me to realize that my life was in God’s hands. He is restoring everything to me that was lost, and he is making my childhood dreams a reality. Today I am producer at CBN, and I just started film school.

So remember the name Billy Ekofo…you might see it on the big screen one day.
