Andrea

Hey my Name is Andrea and this is my world.

I was born into a wonderful sheltered Christian family. I went to church and Sunday school. I knew the story of Jesus, how he died to set the sinner free. But in truth, it was not a reality in my life.

Labeled as a Christian during my early high school and I was the odd man out. When my only Christian friend left for Sweden, I made friends with the very people that mocked my Christianity. When I joined their crowd, I found the acceptance and attention that I had been craving. Soon, I became just like them.

When I started experimenting with drugs, I felt that this was the ultimate party, the ultimate rush. But every high was followed by an even lower low. My relationship with my family got so bad that I left home, even though they forbade it. I thought leaving would free me from guilt, but I was wrong. I started living with a bunch of addicts, working at nightclubs to pay for food and rent, but with varsity classes to pass and an addiction to satisfy soon I was offering myself for my drugs.

But I could not stop. I knew what I was doing was wrong, but my addiction was lord of my life. I couldn’t imagine a world without drugs.\ One morning I overdosed in my room and by God’s grace I came around. I knew I shouldn’t be alive and that this was a change to get my life right, I was still high when I drove home to my parents, but I needed help.

When I saw my dad, I fell down in from of him and cried my heart out. I admitted everything and asked to be sent to rehab for help. My dad just hugged me and said, “we love you.” God had given me a family that saw past what everyone else saw and still loved me.

I went to a Christian rehab. It wasn’t an easy time but it was there that I found my saviour. All that I had ever known was a life without Jesus and for once I was experiencing a life with him.

He changed my whole perspective on life. No matter I had done in my past, my saviour has forgiven me. Because of what he has done, I am a totally different person. Even when the past comes back to haunt me, his love helps me hold my head up high. I will never be the same. I am a new creation, the old has gone and the new has come. I can live in freedom and walk in victory. That is what Jesus did for me and that is what he wants to do for you.
