2006 has the potential to be your greatest year yet! 2006 can be the year you break your addictions, the year you finally release yourself from those bad relationships, the year you overcome your fears and insecurities, the year to land that great job or fulfill your dreams, this can be the year you reach a new level of closeness and intimacy with God; this can be YOUR YEAR!
How can this be possible?
Proverbs 29:18 – Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he
It starts with an end. So many times when facing a new year we write down our goals and resolutions for the next 365 days of our life and have all the best intentions of fulfilling them. However those intentions are rarely followed through by long term or even daily actions. A week or two into the New Year we’re looking pretty good at staying on track, but the busier our lives get, the less and less we pay attention to our resolutions. Halfway through the year we end up rolling our eyes and laughing at goals that just six months earlier were a serious part of our life.
However, 2006 can be different. The verse above says, ‘where there is no vision, the people perish’ – they lack focus, direction, and discipline. It starts with your vision, your dreams, your goals, where you want to be at the end of this year, where you want to be in 20 years. You need to establish your vision, keep it in front of you, and get it on the inside of you. How badly you want to see that vision come to pass will determine the level of discipline you have to make it a reality.
Matt 6:34 - Give your entire attention to what God is doing right now, and don't get worked up about what may or may not happen tomorrow. God will help you deal with whatever hard things come up when the time comes.
For 2006 to be your best year the first thing that you can do is make God a priority in your life. Choose to make prayer, reading the Word, and spending time with Him a part of your daily activity. By making Him your life’s purpose and priority, your passion and desire to grow closer to Him will overcome the challenges of ‘daily routine’ and life’s busyness. When you make this decision, when you take responsibility for your spiritual growth, and you shape your life around it, you will see God’s promises and plans come true.
God doesn’t want you to waste your days worrying about getting that promotion, finding that right person to marry, or how you’re going to accomplish that impossible dream. You need to see that your greatest opportunity is right here, right now. Recognize the potential that God is developing in you at this very moment. Your focus should be on what God has put on your plate, being diligent in the tasks at hand, and reaching your best right now. In doing this you won’t be carrying around worry and questioning where you’re at, risking the chance of missing out on some of the greatest opportunities God has for you at this very moment.
This doesn’t mean you put away your dreams and desires, but you are giving God the freedom to accomplish His will for your life.
Jeremiah 29:11 - For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
God says that He knows the plans that He has for us, and His Word is true and forever. We need to be people who believe that God will do what He says He will do. We have the promise that as long as we put Him as the priority in our lives, His plans will become a reality. Our focus should not be on trying to figure out the details how we are going to accomplish our vision, but to press in to Him each and every new day that comes. When you do this, God will give you the steps to take to carry out your vision. Put your trust in Him and go after Him with all you’ve got.
My challenge for you in 2006 is to make God your life’s purpose and priority. Get excited about the new opportunities that He has for you. With each new day that comes, make it your goal to get into the Word and spend time with God in prayer. The more you do this the more intimate your relationship with be with God, the more He will share His heart and will with you. Don’t hesitate for a moment, don’t let another year pass without getting God’s best. Take responsibility for your life and actions this year and seize the opportunities God has for you.
This is your life – where do you want to be when 2006 is over, and how badly do you want it.
