Hope Question - Pressure? Return to previous page

Q:Lately I could not sleep well because there is so much pressure in me. Next week, I will have a week of final exams that determine whether I will graduate from high school or not. My friends encourage me to cheat because everybody is doing it. Part of me wants to do it because my parents expected me to get good grades. This grade will indicate which college I will go. I just do not know what to do. Can you give me advice? - Lina

A: Pressure is an awful feeling especially when it influences your sleeping. From my experience, Ive learned that sharing my pressure is a healing process. If you like to write, you should express your feeling and pressure in writing. Another way is to share it with your trusted friends or parents who are good listeners. So, be wise in choosing your listeners.

On the other hand, it is important to be responsible in doing your academic tasks. Sometimes people would avoid study time and put homework aside to forget about all the pressure and stress that comes along with it. As a result, we get even more stressed out! Homework and other academic tasks can tend to easily make people feel overwhelmed. Its important at this point to stop everything, take a step back, and just pray to God and give Him all your cares and worries (Mt 11:28-30). After that plan ahead, with what you can do today, take it one day, one step, one page at a time. It is amazing the progression that I accomplish when I have this attitude. Thus, the key is attitude!

Also, Paul shared how tribulation brings perseverance and perseverance proves character, and character proves hope (Rom 5:3-5). This big exam might be a trial for you where you need to persevere in your study. Your perseverance will shape your character and finally give you hope.

Lina, my last word would be, CRY OUT TO GOD! If the feeling of pressure comes to you, bring those feelings to Him. He listens to your cry; as a hymn says, I must tell Jesus all my trials, I cannot bear these burdens alone. In my distress He kindly will save me. He always loves and cares for His own. So, good luck on your test and bring your pressure to Him.
